The Deputy Secretary of Organization of the national PP calls for “unity” in the regional congress, which will be held on July 15
July 15, 2022. It is the date on which the Popular Party congress will be held in the Region, where the current president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, has many ballots to be re-elected leader of the political formation.
The call for the extraordinary conclave was approved this Wednesday at the meeting of the Regional Board of Directors, which was attended by the Deputy Secretary of Organization of the national PP, the Galician Miguel Tellado, a man of the highest confidence of Alberto Núñez Feijóo. From his words, it can be interpreted that Genoa gives his blessing to López Miras, since Tellado insisted that it is time for “unity” and praised the work of the chief executive in recent years, since “it has been useful to citizens and has maintained stability in the Region against those who, with motions of censure, insisted on generating instability».
50% goal
However, Tellado gave López Miras duties if he manages to be re-elected president of the party and candidate for the next elections. “We have to improve the results of 2019. I do not ask the PP of the Region of Murcia to be like the PP of Galicia, but rather to be like the PP of the Region of Murcia, which got the best results in all of Spain.” The deputy secretary of Organization, who in front of López Miras (who nodded) reiterated that the results of the last regional elections were “bad” (the PSOE surpassed the PP for the first time in decades), even set himself the challenge of bringing together “50% of the votes”, for which “the unity not only of the PP, but of the entire center right” is necessary.
López Miras, for his part, confirmed that he will present his candidacy to preside over the PP of the Region and, if he is re-elected by the militants, head the popular list for the Regional Assembly in the next regional elections of 2023, which he defined as “exciting and fundamental” for the future of this land. He confessed that he has lived through “a complicated legislature”, which began with DANA, continued with the pandemic and continued with a motion of censure that the president managed to deactivate with the support of turncoats from Ciudadanos. “Despite everything, this government can present a duly completed service sheet,” said López Miras, who stressed that both he and the Popular Party “still have much to offer.”
Joaquín Segado will chair the organizing committee
The spokesman for the Popular Parliamentary Group in the Regional Assembly and president of the PP in Cartagena, Joaquín Segado, will head the organizing committee of the popular congress on July 15. Next to Segado, as vice president of the committee, will be the president of the party in Molina de Segura, the lawyer José Ángel Alfonso. The secretary is María del Carmen Ruiz Jódar, from Lorca, deputy spokesperson in the Assembly. The members include María José Bedia Navarro, David Campoy Sánchez, Ángela Gaona Cabrera, Severa González, Miriam Guardiola Salmerón, Rosa María López Martínez, Javier Martínez Gilabert, Antonio Navarro Corchón, Fulgencio Perona Paños, Sara Redondo Gil, Guadalupe Soltero Jiménez, Francisca Terol Cano and Pilar Vivancos Alarcon.
Likewise, López Miras picked up Tellado’s glove and his call for unity, announcing that he will work in the coming weeks “so that everyone, absolutely everyone, feels comfortable in the PP of the Region.”
Voting on July 4
In the event that there were two candidates, the PP affiliates up to date with the payment of the quotas would have to vote on July 4. If a candidate achieves more than 50% of the votes, he would automatically be elected president. If not, there would be a second round in the conclave, in which only compromisers would vote. These delegates will also be elected on Monday, July 4.
Tellado denies that Patricia Fernández was undermined, who did not go to the Board of Directors
“Absolutely”. That was the response of the Deputy Secretary of Organization of the National Popular Party, Miguel Tellado, when asked this Wednesday if Genoa had ordered or suggested the mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernández, not to present a candidacy for the regional congress of the PP.
“This is a democratic process to which any militant who is up to date with the payment of fees can apply, we are not going to undermine anyone,” added Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s plumber, who, however, appealed “to responsibility” of positions and members of the party in the region, “because fragmentation generates instability.”
In any case, he affirmed that he has not read any public statement by Patricia Fernández announcing her presumed intention to challenge Fernando López Miras for the presidency of the regional PP. He assures that he doesn’t know from her mouth either.
Of course, Patricia Fernández did not clarify her aspirations yesterday before her party colleagues, since she did not attend the meeting of the Board of Directors, of which she is a member for belonging to the Regional Executive Committee and being president of the PP in Archena, a town from which She has been mayor since 2011. Patricia Fernández had an institutional agenda in the City Council, since the municipality is experiencing its Corpus Christi festivities these days. In the evening, the inauguration of the festival clubs took place.
The truth is that, as Tellado pointed out, the mayor of Archena has never said publicly that she wanted to present herself to the regional congress, although she sent some messages that implied that she would. From the conclave in Seville she lowered her public presence, focusing on her municipal activity.
Ovation to the president
Another who was not seen at the meeting of the Regional Board of Directors was the honorary president of the PP, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, the main supporter of Patricia Fernández. Teodoro García Egea, a member of the Board of Directors for being a national deputy, did not attend either. García Egea has been away from the front line since he resigned as secretary general.
In addition, the atmosphere that was seen yesterday in the popular headquarters was very favorable to López Miras. The president received a thunderous ovation, shouting “president, president,” when he entered the meeting room in the company of Miguel Tellado.
