Last year deb Scamacca and Shomurodov worked, now gone. Ballardini tries again with Ekuban, Lammers and the Polish baby who impressed
Genoa – Attack Revolution, the turning point is complete. In June they greeted Scamacca and Pjaca, at the end of July also Shomurodov: 19 goals in total scored by the trio in the league last season, now the page has been turned. Confirmed Destro and Pandev, who in any case had guaranteed 18 goals in two last year, now the future of the rossoblù attack is all in the feet of three semi-deaf players in Serie A.
As indeed they were Scamacca and Shomurodov, last year at the absolute “premiere”. Yesterday there were medical examinations for Caleb Ekuban at the Porto Antico, soon it will be the turn of Sam Lammers, for whom the Grifone expects to close within the week (even if Verona does not give up) with Atalanta for a 1 million loan with the right of redemption set at 15 and counter-redemption at 16. The Dea, in fact, does not want to lose control because Gasperini considers him an excellent player. Last year he put together just 15 appearances, almost never as a starter, with just 2 goals scored, closed by Zapata, Muriel, Ilicic and Malinovski. He needs to play and a club that values him, Ballardini esteems him and insistently requested him, now the long chase has come to an end.
Ekuban has never played in Serie A, even though he was born in Italy and wanted to return very strongly. Enough to force the hand of Trabzonspor for the sale, the club satisfied him but did not like it and in fact yesterday the technical director Abdullah Avci said: «I talked to him about it, I thanked him for what he did for us but he got the timing wrong ». With the Turks he scored 29 goals in 103 overall games, now he is preparing for the Italian exam. And then there is Aleksander Buksa, the youngest of the company. Eighteen years old last January but already forty games with Wisla Krakow and 4 goals scored, the second youngest goalscorer in the history of the Polish league (16 years and 220 days). From the very first training sessions he impressed Ballardini and his collaborators, the president Preziosi saw on TV his header against Mainz, a goal of rare beauty: “I’m not surprised, he’s very strong”, he confided to his closest collaborators. And the Pole, who chose to leave Wisla by not renewing the contract to land in the football that matters, is on the launching pad, so much so that it is easy to predict a starting role for him from the very first games.
He is just 18 years old and a long way to go but the numbers are the right ones, at home they are ready to swear that it will be up to Buksa to collect the inheritance in the national team of the various Lewandowski, Piatek and Milik. The revolution has served, the attack has radically changed and interpreters to be discovered. Little known names for Italian football but Genoa in recent years has specialized in the genre: the latest examples are represented by Piatek, then sold for 35 million and now back from a couple of seasons to forget in Germany; Shomu, who had just moved to Rome for about twenty million and who when he arrived in the rossoblù was fresh from his first year in double figures (11 goals) between Rostov and Tashkent.
Two sales that have created a lot bad mood but which were fundamental for the club’s coffers.
