The statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about a handful of World War II victorious countries is alarming, said Colonel General Andrei Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Defense Committee, former commander of the Russian group of forces in Syria that liberated Palmyra. He is quoted by Telegram-Channel WarGonzo.
“There was no need to lose in that war, it was necessary to choose the right allies. Nobody forced them to be friends with the wrong ones, ”the deputy added.
At the same time, he noted that it is also necessary to involve countries such as Turkey to solve international problems. There are different platforms and mechanisms for this.
According to Kartapolov, the UN Security Council is the main factor of stability in the world. “If it hadn’t happened, for example, during the Cuban missile crisis, the consequences could have been catastrophic for all of humanity. So it is unacceptable to question the legitimacy of this international institution in all respects, ”the general concluded.
Earlier in October, Erdogan said that the fate of humanity should not be “left to the mercy of a handful” of the victorious countries of World War II, meaning the members of the UN Security Council. In his opinion, the immutability of the global security architecture is inconceivable against the background of how the world is changing.
Andrey Kartapolov served as head of the main military-political directorate of the Russian Armed Forces until October 5, 2021. He was fired in connection with his election to the State Duma.
From December 2016 to March 2017, Kartapolov commanded the Russian group of forces in Syria. At this time, Palmyra, as a result of several operations, was freed from terrorists and transferred to the control of the Syrian government.
