D.he Dudenverlag has got into a difficult position. Since it became known that the Duden editorial team at www.duden.de redefined gender-neutral words such as teachers, pupils and tenants as terms for “male persons”, the criticism has not stopped. Linguists, German scholars, writers, the press and the public have made serious accusations against the publisher and see its reputation as damaged.
Can Dudenverlag get out of this misery? There would indeed be a solution and it would be easy to follow.
