Waiting for Gen4
Once the Mexico City and Diriyah E-Prixes have ended, Formula E will return to the track only in mid-March with the third round of the world championship in Brazil, on the city circuit of Sao Paulo. While waiting for the event, the CEO of the category Jeff Dodds in the meantime he has indicated some technical data relating to the single-seaters that will take to the track in the future, and more precisely starting from Season 13 (2026/2027): le Gen4.
Higher speeds
Cars which, unlike the current Gen3s, will be able to reach i 100 km/h in just under two seconds, versus the two needed in today's ones. A step forward in technical and technological terms which demonstrates the great progress made by the top 100% electric series from its first edition to today. Suffice it to say that in 2014/2015, at the absolute debut of the category, the cars reached 140 miles per hour as a top speed, with the teams even forced to replace the cars due to batteries that could not last an entire race.
More power and longer races
Already with the Gen3, however, it is no longer necessary to stop mid-race to change the car, with maximum speeds of 200 miles per hour. Evolutions that have allowed the series to reduce the performance gap from F1, with the Gen4s which will contribute to bringing these two categories further closer also thanks to other data available today: four-wheel driveone power of 600 kW it's a recovery of 700 kW. All this will allow the increase of the current power of 469 HP just over 800 HP. In addition, thanks to the battery developed by Podium AT, the latter will have a capacity of 55 kW, 16.5 more than that of the Gen3. An upgrade that will allow you to exceed the one-hour duration of the races.
“Battery and powertrain technology is developing so rapidly that it feels like we are only at the beginning of the technology – explained Dodds to the Saudi Public Investment Fund – When we started this series 10 years ago, Formula E became a one-of-a-kind experience. Ten years ago you had to stop halfway through the race to change the car. In two or three years we will have the next, fourth generation of cars. We expect these cars to reach 100 km/h in less than two seconds. Today our races last about 45-50 minutes, we hope to be able to ride races that last up to 1:10 hours or 1:15 hours“.
