The Chinese automotive group Geelywhich has a strong presence in Europe as it controls brands such as Volvo, Polestar and Lotus, presented his idea of the mobility of the future through a sort of competition put in place by Geely Design. Several ideas have come to the attention of the group’s designers, now under the magnifying glass to verify their goodness, both in terms of feasibility and look. Among fifty proposals, received from young designers, five were selected.
Let’s start with the concept on the cover, defined Kota from its creator, the Finnish Jarrko Salonen. In his idea, a mobility that is both travel and comfort is mixed. The of him is a recreational vehicle, a kind of camper, which can be customized in multiple ways according to personal needs. Its modularity allows you to double the living spaces, but above all it uses nature and is easily adaptable to the surrounding environment, making it ideal for outdoor enthusiasts.
Nadav Keshet from Israel instead idealized a magnetic propulsion vehicle, giving his idea of a car an overall innovative aspect. In his concept, the wheels are separated from the car and connected to magnetic cases that are initially powered by the car’s battery. Once the magnets are in motion, they provide separate energy to power the wheels, allowing them to maintain speed.
From Hong Kong, Jason Wong he imagined a vehicle that aims to solve the parking problem. The car can in fact be flattened and automatically transported to a specific hangar. With the battery pack installed low, it is also possible to give more space to the shape and proportions of the car to improve its set-up. The design is deliberately extreme, but it is also decidedly modular.
Another participant from Finland, Joona Kalliopresented the Ghoster 202X. It is a modular and personal electric vehicle platform, small and light, customizable with interchangeable body panels and accessories. The car is connected centrally by a central unit that sends digital signals to power every other part of it. He called it a party car on steroids. In a way it recalls the past, when the chassis was mass-produced, while the bodywork was totally customizable.
The Dane Stefan Perriard instead he envisioned a light rail system for his city of Copenhagen. More like trams traveling at ground level on tracks built on the roads, its modular carriages are highly customizable for various social purposes, and can also act as a bicycle storage, vaccination center or sales point. Own his project has been selected as best concept from Geely Design for its engaging vision of the community. As a winner, Stefan will receive an in-depth portfolio analysis and advice from Geely Design experts, with the aim of perfecting his current works before taking them to the next level. Geely hopes that through this effort the prototype will have a real chance of success.
