In the PC categories, we can mainly distinguish laptops and desktops. After these two main categories, we could continue with the convertibles, with the All in One … and, lately, the Mini PCs are gaining prominence. We can say that the latter are halfway between these two main classes for their versatility and their possibilities. We could present them as a small compact box that includes the brain of the computer. Its small size guarantees mobility, which we can take it anywhere. However, unlike the laptop, which is self -sufficient, in this case where we take it we will need a screen, a keyboard, a mouse and a plug … that little box includes all kinds of connections to facilitate the necessary interaction with all that hardware that is missing.
We have had the opportunity to try the A6, the last Geekom MINI (www.geekom.es)brand specialized in these types of devices, and we want to reflect here how the experience with it has been. We will start by saying that its price does not exceed 500 euros, which places it well below any average yield laptop. On the other hand, for that price, we find more than interesting specifications: an eight -core AMD Ryzen 7 6800h processor, 32 GB of double channel DDR5 memory and 1 TB of internal storage. From there, it is important to highlight the amount of exits that it includes to adapt to any work environment: three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a USB 2.0 port, two Type-C ports, two HDMI ports and an SD card reader. As for the system included, we talk about Windows 11.
All of that enters a white compact aluminum box with less than 12 centimeters side and 3.65 centimeters high. From Geekom they explain that to integrate that power into such a compact space they have had to look for a new solution to dissipate heat. They put themselves with this and discovered that it improves that the air was directed to different layers of the system to end up coming out of the rear of the chassis. This new cooling system has been called Iceblast.
Han also subjected to the device to all types of tests. They presented the A6 to 120 hours high and low temperature and 90 minutes of vibration tests to verify that it continued to function even in extreme environments. Also its USB interfaces went through 15,000 cycles of plug and unfortunate tests to conclude that it can work without problem for a few years. Finally, the A6 has exceeded electromagnetic radiation tests from 30 MHz to 1 GHz and also supported 330 hours of system stability tests.
During the weeks we have had the opportunity to test the A6 we have been able to do with it without any problems different programs at the same time and develop from video edition or complex programming programs. In the image section, it also stands out for the graphic unit AMD Radeon 680m. Based on RDNA 2 architecture, it offers remarkable performance in graphic applications with Full HD resolution and medium demand games, as it is not enough, it is its objective – the demands that we can ask a gaming unit.
As for its storage capacity thanks to its internal 1 TB hard drive, it offers a NVME storage speed that allows very fast starts, also when accessing files and applications. Another strong point of this Geekom Mini PC is its connectivity, apart from the necessary inputs already mentioned, it works with WiFi6e to reduce latency, something that we will notice especially in videoconferences and streaming platforms; Bluetooth 5.2 for when we want to connect with the keyboard, mouse or monitor.
For all that said, the Geekom A6 can be a more than interesting option for both a work environment and to enjoy free time. Thinking above all, in that versatility, in mobility, without forgetting that wherever we take it we will need to connect it to the keyboard, screen … In this test time, we have accessed all applications without problem and skipped from one to another with agility. Even for those most demanding image editing works, the performance of the Ryzen 7 6800H and the Radeon 680M assured a fluid experience.
