The 2021 Ferrari World Finals will be an indelible memory for Michelle Gatting.
She is the first woman ever to win the Ferrari Challenge, born in 1993 which by the way is also the year of birth of the Danish girl.
Michelle started racing with karts from 2005 to 2010, and then did a year in Formula and subsequently in touring cars, starting with the Scirocco for a couple of seasons and arriving at the first GT in 2014, with the Audi R8 Ultra in GT Open.
Her career then grew exponentially, leading Michelle to compete in the most prestigious championships, such as ELMS with Kessel Racing and Iron Lynx.
The package also includes three participations in the 24h of Le Mans, the GT World Challenge Europe, the Michelin Le Mans Cup, the FIA WEC, the Italian GT and the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, in which the complete season has arrived after a few 2020 races. 2021. Here’s what he hotly told Motorsport.com.
You are Champion 2021, how do you feel?
“I am very happy with this title, first of all for myself, for all the work done so far, the sacrifices and for the people who believed in me”.
How important was it?
“A lot, the championship is super competitive, with several fast riders who fought together with me. Niccolò Schirò who arrived at the championship already started, John Wartique and Luka Nurmi. A season-long battle, a fourth place was enough here at Mugello to make the dream come true. We raced on different tracks and this was important to refine everything, especially in the search for set-ups “.
Now the “holidays” begin, what will you do in 2022?
“Now I want to enjoy this victory, even if the head goes to the World Final, a very important race that means being the Ferrari Challenge World Champion. I want to stay with Iron Lynx and the Iron Dames. I would like to go back to racing Le Mans, WEC, ELMS, GTWC, but we haven’t talked about anything at the moment. “
What have the two seasons in the Ferrari Challenge brought you on a personal level?
“In the Ferrari Challenge I have grown a lot, not sharing the car with anyone allowed me to get to know the 488 better and adapt it to my needs, to understand which was the right and the wrong path. All this allowed me to improve my driving style. and my performance “.
What do you think of the Iron Dames program?
“I think it’s a great idea, it allows girls who want to enter the world of motorsport, to enter and above all grow in a top team that at the same time manages to make you grow, both personally and in terms of performance. Obviously the driver he puts his effort into it, but the team helps to understand the management of the car, the race and many other aspects. I believe that at the moment it is the only valid project “.
Who do you want to thank?
“I want to thank Deborah Mayer and Claudio Schiavoni who believed in me and created both Iron Lynx and the Iron Dames project, the results achieved this season are the result of the work carried out in recent years”.
