“The Alpine troops on duty and on leave – recalled the Head of State – participated, with good reason, in the initiatives to combat the pandemic”
Rimini – With the parade of eighty thousand black feathers on the Rimini seafront, to which have assisted thousands of peoplethe national meeting of the Alpini ended, greeted by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella with a message sent to the president of the National Alpine Association, Sebastiano Favero.
“The Alpine troops on duty and on leave – recalled the Head of State – participated, with good reason, in the initiatives to combat the pandemic, collaborating with the branches of the National Health Service and local institutions”. Mattarella wanted to remember their sacrifice in the Second World War, and that of all Italian soldiers. “To the feelings of peace that painfully matured in that conflict and which have given us back a Europe free of wars for over half a century, we dedicate this day“, he said, drawing a parallel with the” brutality of the war unleashed by the Russian Federation in the territories of Ukraine “.
In recent days, the President of the Republic, by promulgating the law that fixes the Day of the Alpine troops to January 26, has urged the government to reorganize the celebrations for the Armed Forces in the name of unity. From the Rimini meeting, Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini said he was convinced “that the conditions exist for this recommendation, this invitation to become reality”. The minister himself took the opportunity to mention the Ukrainian conflict.
“Our minds and hearts are turned to Ukraine”, he admitted from the stage of the meeting, hoping that “peace will return” and that “the possibility of real negotiations will return”. For Guerini, Rimini was “a day of rebirth”. He thanked the Alpini “for what they have done in these two years of pandemic helping the country in vaccinations, in the construction of hospitals”. Also present in the grandstand were the Minister of Technological Innovation Vittorio Colao (Alpine like Guerini), the Minister for Relations with the Parliament Federico D’Incà, General Claudio Graziano, President of the EU Military Committee, and the general Francesco Figliuolo, former special commissioner for the Covid emergency and now commander of the Covi. For the latter, the gathering was an opportunity “to shake hands, to resume social relations. This is a good thing”, he said referring to the return to normality after the most acute phase of the pandemic. “Let’s hope it continues like this,” he added. The day in the town of Romagna was a party, like all four days of the gathering. Rimini mayor Jamil Sadegholvaad rejoiced. It is estimated that there were over 400,000 presences in the city. “Such numbers” from the point of view of visitors, “have rarely seen each other”. “We experienced an early August mid-August to all intents and purposes”, noted the mayor.
To stain the party, the many reports of harassment and catcalling by Alpini reported by the association against violence against women ‘Non una di less’.
