Polyps on the wall of the gallbladder are almost always “non-living” – these are deposits of cholesterol and bilirubin, said gastroenterologist, therapist Alexei Paramonov. write “Arguments and Facts”.
The doctor told what symptoms may indicate the presence of tumors and whether the patient needs a diet. A polyp is a growth on the wall of the gallbladder. Cholesterol polyps may not change over the years and grow slowly. However, then they are separated from the organ wall and turn into a gallbladder stone. As the specialist noted, only in three percent of cases polyps turn out to be benign tumors. “When such a tumor polyp becomes large enough, the risk of the formation of malignant growth zones increases in it,” the physician described.
At the same time, ultrasound examinations and other methods do not allow to determine the type of polyp, they must be monitored. Patients are prescribed two ultrasounds per year. If the polyp remains almost unchanged, the operation is not performed. When it reaches 10 millimeters and bleeds, the doctor may send for surgery to prevent future cancer from developing.
Polyps do not react in any way to a person’s lifestyle, therefore, a diet is not needed when they appear, the specialist noted.
Earlier, American doctors found a link between the use of vitamins B6, B12 and an increased risk of lung cancer.
