Pierre Gasly’s future is about to reach the long-awaited crossroads. There are two ways to go: to return to Red Bull 2 years after retreating to the then Toro Rosso, or to remain the reference point of the AlphaTauri for at least another season.
Two different paths, which lead to completely different goals. But that both are being manipulated by Red Bull and its future plans. In Milton Keynes Christian Horner and his collaborators are meeting to decide the name of who will be next to Max Verstappen starting next season.
The alternatives, we know, are 2. Sergio Perez, who is doing so well in this first year in Red Bull, or that Pierre Gasly first seduced, then abandoned, then seducer thanks to a couple of exciting seasons in the team. from Faenza, who grew up with and thanks to his maturation that led him to achieve podiums and even victory at the Italian Grand Prix – in Monza – in 2020.
“I am waiting to see what happens. I think everything is pretty clear, everything is in the hands of Red Bull,” said Pierre Gasly, who made no secret of having his future in the hands of the team headed by Horner.
“Verstappen is under contract for next year at Red Bull, while I think Sergio only has one year on his contract. We will see what happens with him and then what we will do together for the future.”
“Obviously I have a contract with Red Bull for a few years and I am quite confident that we will have an answer in the summer break, or shortly after”.
In AlphaTauri, Pierre finds himself very well. He found an environment that pampered, protected, put him back on track and exalted. It is the point of reference that was used in Faenza to try to climb the hierarchy of the constructors’ world rankings. But, as it should be, every driver tries to have the best car in his hands. Gasly is no stranger to normality, which is why he awaits signals from Red Bull.
“A driver always wants to be behind the wheel of the best car possible. I think in AlphaTauri they want a leader to try and really grow the team and I think there is an excellent relationship between me and them.”
“As a driver, as I said, you always want to be in the best car and fight for the best position. And that’s what we’re discussing. But, in the end, I’m just focusing on doing well weekend after weekend, race after race, and showing my potential “.
“My future is in the hands of Red Bull. If they want me, or if they are happy with the current driver duo, or maybe it depends on how Sergio is behaving and how they are planning the future in AlphaTauri.”
“We are discussing a lot of things. Everything is going well, but there is no answer at the moment. I expect to have some more answers in the coming weeks.”
