The first two sessions of free practice for the Abu Dhabi GP have still highlighted an excellent state of form of theAlphaTauri, already the protagonist of convincing performances also during the Friday of the last two events in Losail and Gedda. Contrary to the stages disputed in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, however, the driver to have recorded the best time, among the ranks of the Faenza team, was this time Yuki Tsunoda. At the end of PL1, in fact, the Japanese closed at 5th place, overtaking his teammate Pierre Gasly also on the occasion of PL2, finishing 7th against the 10th time of the Frenchman.
An outcome that the Japanese rider commented as follows at the end of his activity on the track, where he appreciated the changes made to the Yas Marina circuit: “I already drove here for the Young Driver Test last year – He admitted – Of course, knowing the track in advance always helps my approach to the weekend, which hasn’t always happened this season. I really like the new layout of this circuit, we still have some things to work on, but I think the pace so far is pretty good. We got a lot of data from the two cars, so we are in a good position to continue improving tomorrow. My goal is to get back to Q3 in qualifying, as we look pretty strong here. Our race pace looks good too, so we just need to put it into practice when it counts. “
Despite having entered the top 10 in both sessions, Gaslyunlike Tsunoda, he is not entirely satisfied with the first day of testing. The Frenchman, despite having expressed positive opinions on the design of the track, where he obtained the 7th place as the best result of the day, he did not find the right feeling with the car: “The layout is really different – he analyzed – it looks like a new track with a lot more high speed corners, so it’s really cool. We tried a few different things with the car today, but I haven’t felt that good yet, so we have work to do for tomorrow ”.
