In 2022, Formula 1 will experience a second race in the United States. In fact, on May 8 the Circus will play the first Miami GP in history, on the brand new circuit that is being built in the city of Florida around the Hard Rock Stadium, the nerve center of many sports and entertainment of the city. However, the race was originally scheduled to take place in the actual downtown Miami. In that area, however, various obstacles arose that first slowed down and then definitively stopped the work, prompting the organizers to identify another area for the construction of the plant.
“Great things take time – he told the German site Auto Motor und Sport Tom Garfinkel, ad of the circuit – We initially tried to build a track in downtown Miami, but there was resistance and we had constraints on the layout of the course. Our goal was to build a circuit where exciting races could be experienced – added Garfinkel – while the track in the city center would have offered few overtaking opportunities. It would have been cool just to watch on TV. It took some time to get to where we are now building the track. Here we can design the route from a blank sheet. It also took some time to get all the permits – concluded the US executive – and then there was the Coronavirus pandemic. This caused further delays“.
