The fairy tales of Assen
There were numerous strong emotions experienced in the paddock Assen over the course of the last weekend, starting with the incredible success in Race 1 of Nicholas Spinelli. Called by the Barni team to replace the injured Danilo Petrucci, the Abruzzo native surprisingly won his first Superbike race thanks to the correct choice of tires and the subsequent red flag displayed a few laps from the end, when the recovery of the riders behind him it seemed like we could now put an end to a fairy tale that has instead come true.
The first podium
A beautiful sports story that was also seen the next day Race 2this time with protagonist Remy Gardner. Thanks to 3rd place conquered, the Australian has indeed obtained his first podium in Superbike. A top three finish that the Yamaha rider had not achieved in his career since 2021, the year in which he became world champion in Moto2.
The end of a troubled period
Passed in MotoGP the following season, however, Gardner had to deal with an experience lacking in satisfaction before arriving in Superbike in 2023, where the podium began to seem like a mirage despite some good performances. A nightmare that ended in Assen, where the 26-year-old was finally able to let off steam: “It was really tough, especially with how my MotoGP career went – he declared after the match – it didn't go well and I felt like I was a bit discarded as a driver. It was tough, but to be honest I always believed in myself and kept fighting and pushing because at some point I could have retired and dedicate myself to something else. I continued to push, believe in myself and work as hard as always. This third position certainly seems like a victory to me, which is why it was so frustrating to miss the podium so many times. I think I worked a lot, but in the end, good things come to those who work hard, and they finally pay off.”
