United States.- The secretary of Public Security during the government of the former president Felipe Calderon HinojosaGenaro García Luna, filed an amparo suit against the arrest warrant against him for the case known as “Fast and Furious”.
Since December 2019, García Luna has been held in a United States prison, accused of the crimes of conspiracy, false statements and accepting bribes from criminal groups operating in Mexico.
Through his lawyers in Mexico, the former Mexican secretary filed an amparo in the Eighth Court Amparo District in Criminal Matters18 days after a judge ordered his arrest for the operation that made it possible for thousands of illegal firearms to reach national territory with the approval of the federal government.

To date, Luz María Ortega Tlapa, head of the Eighth District Court of Amparo in Criminal Matters, has not admitted the appeal filed by García Luna for processing, since unknown what is the act that is claimed and which authorities are attributed to them.
Given this, the judge gave a maximum period of 5 days for the lawyers of the former head of the Ministry of Public Security to specify what the act claimed is and which authorities are being claimed.
Last January of this year, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) ordered the arrest of Genaro García Luna, as well as 7 other people involved in the operation through which they managed to traffic illegally 2,500 weapons introduced to Mexico. Among these 7 people is Joaquin Guzman Loera“El Chapo”.
The current federal government has been emphasizing the fight against the illegal trafficking of firearms from the United States, accusing that these are the ones that have caused the exponential increase in Mexico.

Last year, the government of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador filed a suit against armories that operate in the United States, seeking to repair the damage they have done in the Mexican Republic by selling weapons to members of criminal groups. The appeal has been supported by US prosecutors and attorneys.
