Sinaloa.- The Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Sinaloa reported that it dismantled a gang of kidnappers that operated through the Grindr dating app, so it called for its use with caution.
This Friday he warned that this happened during the current year, and the offenders were detected through investigations by the Specialized Anti-Kidnapping Unit (UEA).
Commander Romeo, coordinator of the UEA, indicated that through this application, victims who were kidnapped were contacted and money was demanded from their families.
“Fortunately, in all cases, the people were rescued and those responsible were arrested, who are now serving a sentence,” the FGE reported.
Given this situation, the commander advised the population to be very cautious when using dating apps, and asked users to avoid giving personal information to people they do not know, which could be used at any given time to extort or kidnap.
Commander Romeo urged the population to be very careful when using these dating apps “where they are exposed to many dangers” and suggested that a trusted person be aware of the meeting place.
“The fact that nowadays people find it easy to give their location, to give information to a person they met through an app, creates a lot of vulnerability and the fact that they don’t even know where they are going, no one is informed about who they are going out with, who they are in contact with; there is no such communication, there is no exchange of communication between the family,” he said.
He pointed out that exposing information on social media also makes people vulnerable, so he also urged people to be very careful with what they upload publicly, as he stressed that this information can be used for good or to commit some illegal act.
