Gambling Veikkaus’ gaming revenues decreased significantly from the previous year

The share of digital gaming clearly increased.

Coronary pandemic and the introduction of mandatory authentication in gaming machines and table games ruined Veikkaus’ gaming revenue last year. Gaming margin decreased by almost 13 percent to EUR 1.1 billion. However, the reduction in lottery tax and sales commissions helped the company maintain its profit at the previous year’s level of EUR 680 million.

The total volume of Veikkaus’ games was EUR 6.9 billion.

Less than 49 percent of the gaming margin came from physical gaming venues and the rest from digital channels. The share of digital gaming increased by eight percentage points. Slot machines remained closed from the beginning of the year due to the corona. In addition, mandatory identification at slot machines and mandatory loss limits reduced the share of physical outlets.

Mandatory identification was expanded to three-quarters of all play. To be continued.

“We are on our way to being the only gaming company in the world where all gaming is recognizable. During 2022, mandatory identification will come to coupon games and during 2023 to scratch cards, ”says the company’s Director of Responsibility Susanna Saikkonen in the bulletin.

According to Veikkaus, its share of the total Finnish gambling market was about 74 percent last year, down 5 percentage points from the previous year.
