This March 11, the presidential inauguration of Gabriel Boric took place, the Chilean leftist politician who won the elections on December 20. The one who becomes the youngest president of that country, enters his position in the midst of a constitutional reform and a very strong migratory explosion in the north.
Heads of state were invited to this event, such as Alberto Fernández, from Argentina; Luis Arce, from Bolivia and Mark Phillips, from Guyana. As representatives of Colombia will attend the Vice Chancellor, Francisco Echeverry; the Minister of Transport, Angela María Orozco and the Chilean ambassador to this country, Guillermo Botero.
For its part, political figures such as Gustavo Petro, Luiz Ignácio Lula da Silva and Jeremy Corbyn also traveled to that territory to meet Boric last Thursday and witness his swearing-in today.
According to the agenda, around 11 in the morning, Chilean time, the elect spoke before Congress and, an hour later, received Piñera’s sash and was sworn in. Around 3 in the afternoon he would be giving his speech before the Chilean population.

How much will Boric earn?
Boric, 36, will enter his position with a lower salary than his predecessor, Sebastián Piñera, received. This thanks to the constitutional reform that was made in Chile due to the 2019 protests, which achieved a decrease in salary not only for the president, but also for ministers, senators and deputies.
According to the Chilean television news program ’24 Horas’ the net salary of the president will be 8,713,390 Chilean pesos, which is equivalent to 41 and a half million Colombian pesos.

“The amount mentioned above is transitory, and will be a commission made up of 5 members appointed by the President of the Republic, with the agreement of two thirds of the Senators in office, who must set the remuneration of the authorities every 4 years”, explains the Chilean media.
A salary that, although it is less than Piñera’s by almost 15 million pesos, exceeds that of some Latin American leaders such as Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina.
