Following the successful release of Half-Life: Alyx, Gabe Newell, Co-founder of Valve, he decided to move to a residence in New Zealand, where he has been resting throughout the pandemic. However, the well-known charge has recently reappeared in an interview with the New Zealand media 1 News, returning once again to drop an unexpected media bomb: there is various games in development at the studio that have yet to be announced.
«Definitely, we have games in development that we will announce; it’s fun to launch games»Newell said when asked directly about Valve’s future as a video game developer. However, the manager knew perfectly what he could answer and what not, offering us great exclusives such as these, yes, wrapped in an enormous secrecy that will be resolved only “when appropriate”.
And is that faced with the already inescapable question of whether these developments are related to the expected deliveries of Portal 3 or Half-Life 3, once again ambiguity and friendly teasing are imposed in Newell’s speech: «I have successfully avoided talking about such things for a long time and I hope to continue without talking about them until they are questions that we can discuss […] If I answer, then we will move on to a new series of questions. […] By not answering, I prevent the community from coming up with new questions that are equally difficult to answer.”.
However, this has not stopped Gabe Newell from also returning to talk about the process of creating Half-Life: Alyx, with strong points for the company’s return to single player games: «(Half-Life) Alyx has been great. Back to single player games, which have led to many great moments in the company, drives us to want to do more«.
So, the future of these games is really uncertain considering that Valve has developed and canceled all kinds of sequels and new IPs in the past, including Half-Life 3 itself. Although the not so negative statements of this last interview seem having once again stirred the flame of hope among the most fans.
