Starting from 1 November 2021, the procedure to which each vehicle must be subjected periodically will undergo an increase in terms of costs. Based on what has already been announced, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobilityi defines an increase in the cost of the overhaul of € 9.95 plus VAT (total 12.14 euros). This is a mini-sting, with a 22% increase over the cost until October. The new cost of overhauls covers all motor vehicles and trailers. The check cadence will not change, which will remain four years after registration, and then to follow every two years after the first revision.
But it doesn’t stop there. Those who carry out the overhaul at the nearest DMV headquarters, the expected cost will be 54.95 euros (today it is 45 euros), while those who go to an authorized review center will spend as much as 79 euros. In this specific case the figure is determined by the basic increase, plus VAT at 22%, to which also 10.20 euros must be added as Motorization rights and another 1.78 euros for the postal order.
Finally, there is an economic aid measure, open to all: it is a facility that takes the name of ‘Good safe vehicles‘, with its own value of 9.95 euros. You can ask through a dedicated platform connected to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility. Citizens can submit their request by registering with Spid or Electronic Identity Card. In the form that will be presented it will be necessary to indicate the vehicle registration number, IBAN code and email address. A total of 402,000 citizens will be able to be selected, based on the order in which the application is submitted. The rule specifies that the bonus is valid for only one vehicle per person. The portal should be ready by the end of December 2021.
As always, we must pay close attention to the expiry of the review in order not to run into a sanction. The Highway Code establishes an administrative sanction from 173 euros to 694 euros (with doubling in case of recidivism). If you are caught driving the vehicle during the suspension period, the fine can range from € 1,998 to € 7,993, with the addition of 90 days of administrative detention. The recidivism, in this case, triggers the confiscation of the vehicle.
We remember that even electric vehicles they must ‘pass the review’. Honda, on its website, writes: “Electric cars must pass inspection like any other vehicle, the first time after 4 years and then every 2 years. The main difference, of course, is that there are no emissions tests“.
