Thinking about getting on the hunt for some silver dollars? As an avid collector myself I totally get it. These coins are soaked in great American history and have a high purity silver level. Makes them pretty ideal for anyone who’s looking to stack (figuratively) some coins!
You can usually have good luck finding a unique edition when you get a 50 piece Morgan dollar set. I’ve actually done this three times now, where I buy a set and then break it apart. I’ll keep the ones I like and then sell the rest.
Let’s take a look at why these silver dollars are such a sought-after commodity.
The Classic Morgan Silver Dollar Graced Us From 1878 to 1904 and a Final Print in 1921
One of my absolute favorite coins. I just love the image of our country’s brave and holy eagle on the back of these things. Claw holding the olive branch symbolizing peace, and the arrows for power and strength. What a beautiful sight.
These coins have a beautiful side profile of our Lady Liberty, who is symbolic of freedom to the USA. Interestingly she wears a Phrygian cap which back in the day was seen as having a “masculine power”. There’s a band across this cap with the word LIBERTY inscribed.
You can also see two cotton blossoms attached to her cap. These represent America’s agricultural upbringings. The 13 stars that frame our Lady’s face stand for the original colonies who settled here.
From 1921 to 1928 then 1934 and ‘35 the Peace Silver Dollar Took Over
After the last printing in 1921 of the Morgan Silver Dollar, the U.S. government decided to roll out a replacement coin. This coin is a little much for me, but some people love it. Our Lady gets upgraded to a Goddesses and her cap turns into what’s stated to be a crown with sun beams coming from it. To me it looks like thorns coming out of her head.
My favorite side of the eagle has also been downplayed. No longer does it have spread wings or is it holding arrows in its claws. Plus the olive branch looks floppy. It’s just lacking.

Grabbing a great deal is always recommended! A lot of the time you can find several excellent coins in a good 50 piece Morgan dollar set. I personally split these up and sell the coins I don’t want. But a good friend likes to keep sets as an investment.
A Coin with an Allurement like a Fine Lady
Really, it’s easy to see why these beautiful coins are searched for and coveted. Investment and historical interest really make up a good portion of why people choose these. There are plenty of ways to find these alluring coins, like picking up a 50 piece Morgan dollar set. Break them up and sell the ones you don’t want or keep them all as a high value investment “set piece”.
