There are even three organizational steps taken by one of the longest-running teams in the history of Formula 1 – that of Enstone – in the last eight years of the hybrid era. The debut of the current power units saw Lotus as the protagonist which, after a first season supported by Renault, decided to switch to the Mercedes unit for 2015.
However, the unique experience between the Brixworth engineer and the team lasted only one year, before the new acquisition by Renault which again invested for a “full time” return in Formula 1. Since then the team has slowly grown to to 2020, to then leave room for the current Alpine as the group’s luxury brand to be relaunched internationally.
