Lamborghini, Porsche, Rolls-Royce. The big automobile companies welcome the pandemic almost as a positive factor: Covid has made them shine luxury sales, with growth rates in some cases frightening. One of the most striking examples is that of Lamborghini: the car manufacturer from Sant’Agata Bolognese has closed a record 2021 with 8,405 cars sold, for what was the best year ever and a growth of 13% over 2020. The main market remains the US one (2,472 units, + 11%), followed by the Chinese ones (935, + 55%) , German (706, + 16%) and British (564, + 9%).
Even in Italy, Lamborghini’s motherland, the figures were positive: + 3%, with a total of 359 cars delivered. Unsurprisingly, the global sales of the carmaker del Toro were the Super SUV Urus, which alone has collected more than 5,000 registrations: just think that the Huracan with V10 engine, the second best-selling model by the company, stopped at just over 2,500 deliveries. A nice springboard for the next few years, in which Lamborghini has already fixed the stages of electrification: the future hybrid range will debut from 2023, to have a 100% electrified line-up by the end of 2024.
As pointed out by Il Fatto Quotidiano on newsstands today, the business of Porsche and Rolls-Royce also went along the lines of Lamborghini. The German car manufacturer has nearly 302,000 cars delivered, or 11% more than the previous year, while the British one in 2021 set a historic sales record after 117 years of history, with 5,586 vehicles being registered. “Many have witnessed the deaths of people in their community due to Covid and this reminded them that life can be short and, therefore, it would be better to live now rather than put it off to a later date. – commented Torsten Müller-ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce – It is thanks to Covid that the entire luxury business is booming around the world. People have not been able to travel a lot, they have not been able to invest in luxury services… and they accumulate a lot of money which is spent on luxury goods ”.
