The ministry added that this step will allow Ukrainians in the United States, starting from the first of March, to stay and work legally for 18 months, according to “Reuters”.
The ministry said that this program will apply to nearly 75,000 Ukrainians.
Ukrainians will get exemption from deportation and work licenses under a program known as temporary protected status.
The program gives immigrants who cannot return home safely due to exceptional circumstances such as violent conflict or natural disasters, the ability to stay and work in the United States legally, for a specified period.
On Thursday, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it had halted deportations to Ukraine due to the “current humanitarian crisis”.
More than a million Ukrainians have fled to neighboring Central European countries since the start of the Russian offensive on February 24, which Moscow describes as a “special operation”.
