The production company announces its next project at Cannes: turning the Galician writer’s fiction into a series
Valencian María Zamora is the first woman producer in Spain to win a Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. It happened on the night of Wednesday, February 16, 2022, when the Berlinale jury awarded the film ‘Alcarrás’ with the highest award. This date is already the history of Spanish cinema. The filmmaker Carla Simón took the stage with Zamora, who also produced ‘Estiu 1993’, the Catalan director’s first film. Behind the success of ‘Alcarràs’ is the talent and effort of Simón and Zamora. Both are the first Spanish women to win one of the four major festivals (Cannes, Venice, Berlin and San Sebastian).
Maria Zamora, a member of the jury for the Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival, is in the French city. There she has announced his next project: he will adapt ‘Miss Marte’ (Alfaguara), the novel by Manuel Jabois, for television.
The Galician writer has shared the news on his Twitter profile. Zamora, through his production company Elástica, will turn the work of the journalist and writer into a series. ‘Miss Marte’ starts from the disappearance of a girl to reflect on the journalist’s job or how the truth is constructed.
‘Miss Marte’ is the second series produced by María Zamora, who is behind the adaptation ‘That damn wall’ (Libros del KO), in which Isaki Lacuesta, Isa Campo and Raúl Arévalo participate.
