Officers from the National Police, in conjunction with the Police Nationale, arrested a fugitive who allegedly raped an 84-year-old woman in France.
The suspect, who is one of the top most-wanted men in Europe, was using a fake, Italian identity in order to hide in Casteldefels in Barcelona.
The 48-year-old man had a European Arrest Warrant against him issued by a law court in Saint-Étienne.
The crime was perpetrated in June 2009 in Saint-Genest-Lerpt. The man had offered to drive the woman home. Upon arrival he asked for a drink and once inside allegedly carried out the attack.
He was finally identified in 2012 after he was arrested over a case of domestic violence. The arrest protocol includes taking a sample of DNA and this sample was later found to match the DNA of the woman’s attacker.
