From the PlayStation Vita catalogue we witness a rather unexpected return, with Freedom Wars Remastered that was announced with a presentation trailer from Bandai Namco, action RPG destined to return on PC, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, complete with release date fixed.
The game will be coming to the platforms in question on January 10, 2025, as a reworked and improved version of the original Released 10 years ago on PlayStation Vitare-proposing the same story and contents of the original but with totally updated graphics.
Originally developed by Dimps and released in 2014, Freedom Wars was at the time published directly by Sony on the PlayStation Vita, being handled as a sort of first party, and also achieved considerable success on that platform.
A special futuristic action RPG
It is a third-person action RPG, featuring Local and online multiplayerwith cooperative and competitive elements for up to 8 players in the game.
Freedom Wars Remastered is published by Bandai Namco but the project is still led by Takashi Tsukamoto, director of the original.
“We’ve wanted to make a sequel since the game came out 10 years ago, but the opportunity never came along,” Tsukamoto said. “This time we were fortunate enough to have an opportunity, and with Bandai Namco Entertainment producing while we’re developing, and with it being the 10th anniversary, the timing was right to do something.”
The game is set in a dystopian futurein a world ravaged by pollution and depleted of natural resources, where humanity lives in sprawling prison complexes called Panopticons. Anyone born into this hellish landscape is considered a “sinner” and is essentially deprived of freedom from birth.
Players then seek redemption by volunteering for extremely dangerous combat operations, competing with other Panopticons for what remains of the planet’s dwindling resources.
