RANEPA: Fraudsters began to scare Russians with cases of discrediting the army
Fraudsters began to deceive Russians, scaring them with the initiation of criminal cases under the article on discrediting the army, reports RIA Novosti with reference to RANEPA experts.
A person receives a fake letter with a “scan” in their mail or messenger, where it is written about a non-existent case. The letter or message often contains real personal information. Attackers demand to transfer money “to resolve the issue,” and may also ask for passwords from State Services, or even try to provoke them into committing illegal actions, experts say.
“The personal data used indicates that Ukrainian call centers have accumulated a significant amount of information about individual Russians and created their digital dossiers, which are constantly expanding,” said an expert from the Laboratory of Linguistic Security and the Psychology of Information Impact at RANEPA.
Previously, Russia recorded cases of fraud involving payments to soldiers of a special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine. The military is informed by telephone about the payment due to them and problems with their transfer. In particular, they say that allegedly because of a crime committed against the serviceman’s account, all available money must be transferred to a “safe account”, otherwise they will be arrested. After the money arrives in the scammers’ account, the callers stop communicating.
