The mayor of Torres de Cotillas, Francisco Jesús López Manzanera, is in love with the festivities of the municipality he presides over. For this year, the first mayor recommends residents and visitors to live them “at street level with the best of smiles and with all the desire in the world to share the best moments of the program of activities.”
–How do the Torreños get to their parties?
–The last days of August in Las Torres de Cotillas are synonymous with enthusiasm, fun and happiness. And it is that, as we all know, our beloved parties arrive, which for so many months we look forward to and look forward to. These are days to live more closely with our own, to enjoy the street, to participate in activities and to meet with lifelong friends and those new ones that arise on these dates.
“50% of the proceeds from the Antonio José concert will go to social associations”
What is the most special of these celebrations?
–In addition to all the activities prepared, I would point out that these days we will also meet many people (relatives and neighbors) who return to Las Torres de Cotillas to live these festivities intensely. Let us make the memories they take with them unforgettable, fun, endearing and friendly. That is, as are the torreños and torreñas.
– How do you face these parties?
–With the health crisis due to Covid-19 still not gone, we can say that we will live these celebrations as we always have: with the smile that can now be seen behind those masks that have marked our lives for the last two years. We do not forget this pandemic –or those from whom it has taken from us and for whom we have our most sincere and affectionate memories–, but together we have shown that together, with effort, head and sacrifice we can achieve what we set out to do.
-This year there will also be space for solidarity and the fight against gender violence.
-Yes, the municipal government team has decided that 50% of the proceeds from the Antonio José concert be allocated to social associations, which carry out such important work in the municipality throughout the year.
In addition, four ‘purple points’ will be installed during the concerts and the Youth Festival, to guarantee spaces free of sexist violence. They will have a team of professionals who will inform and will be prepared to act if a case occurs. No woman should feel intimidated or insecure, whether during the holidays or any other time.

What does the mayor of Las Torres de Cotillas enjoy most?
–As the son of Torreños, a couple from Torreña and father of Torreño, I like to live the parties at street level with the best of smiles and with all the desire in the world to share the best moments of the activity program with my neighbors. Possibly you won’t see me dancing –believe it or not, it’s not my thing–, but I’m sure you will laugh and chat until your body lasts, because this mayor is one more in his town, who likes close and friendly treatment, who likes the town and its neighbors.
What message do you want to send to your neighbors?
–Enjoy these festivities as we only know how to do it here: with joy, with humor, with a predisposition for revelry, with happiness, with a great desire to have a good time. In short, have a great time, always with responsibility and respect.
