Igor Sollai continues to declare himself innocent in the death of his wife, Francesca Deidda. In a letter sent to Andrea Deidda, the woman’s brother, Sollai reiterates that he is not the culprit and says he is ready to meet him to clarify his position. However, the investigators do not seem to have any doubts about his responsibility and are continuing their investigations to look for further evidence against him.
The case dates back to May 30th, when Sollai reported Francesca’s disappearance. The police, suspicious of some inconsistencies in the man’s version, immediately began to investigate further. The suspicions became even more concrete when Francesca’s lifeless body was found in a remote area, far from the house she shared with Sollai. From that moment, the investigators began to reconstruct the events which, according to their hypotheses, have the husband as the protagonist. Igor kills his wife inside their home, then transports the body and stages a false disappearance.
A key element of the investigation is the fact that, after Francesca’s death, someone continued to use her phone to chat with family, friends and colleagues. This detail has fueled the suspicion that Sollai, in an attempt to cover his tracks, has orchestrated a plan to remove all suspicion from himself, using technology to sidetrack the investigation.
A further development that has caused concern concerns a van which Sollai sold shortly after Francesca’s death. It did not escape the investigators’ attention that the man warned the buyer to “degrease the vehicle well” before using it, further fueling doubts about his guilt. The new analyzes on the vehicle and the continuous inspections of the couple’s home could provide decisive answers.
Sollai’s letter to his brother-in-law, reported by The Sardinian Unionappears to be an attempt to approach and defend himself, but it did not convince those who knew the victim well. The pain of the Deidda family is inconsolable, and the demand for justice for Francesca is loud and clear. His brother Andrea has not yet responded publicly to Sollai’s appeal, but the tension remains palpable.
Francesca Deidda’s feminicide sadly adds to the long list of violence against women that continues to mark our country. The case has once again put the spotlight on the need to urgently address the issue of gender violence. The questions surrounding the crime remain numerous, but the family and society ask for only one thing: truth and justice.
