The atrocious murder of this teenager has shocked the entire country and caused great controversy, as the extreme right has tried to exploit the crime for political purposes.
Ten days after her murder in Paris, France said Monday its last goodbye to Lola Daviet, the 12-year-old girl whose body was found inside a trunk in the courtyard of the apartment building where she lived with her family. The atrocious murder of this teenager in the French capital has shocked the entire country and has caused great controversy, as the extreme right has tried to exploit the crime for political purposes.
The funeral, celebrated by the Bishop of Arras, Olivier Leborgne, took place in the Church of Saint-Omer in Lillers, a town of 10,000 inhabitants in Pas-de-Calais (northern France), where Lola’s mother was born. The little girl’s white coffin, decorated with white flowers, entered the church, followed by her parents, siblings, family and friends. The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, attended the funeral, invited by the family. The residents of rue Manin, the street where Lola and her family lived in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, and friends from the Pas-de-Calais campsite where they spent the summer also moved to Lilliers.
“Lola, 12 years old. Lola has left too soon, under absolutely unbearable circumstances,” Bishop Leborgne said at the beginning of the mass. The family and the bishop wanted the ceremony, which lasted an hour, to be “simple and sober”, far from the political controversies of recent days.

“Today, nothing stops our tears. Until recently, we saw you laugh, smile, dance, without worrying about anything, like a child your age. You leave a big void around us. Your departure leaves us devastated and annihilates us. We will certainly do our best to honor your memory, my little princess. We will take care of each other. We love you, my Lola,” the teenager’s aunt said excitedly during the religious ceremony.
“You Gone Too Soon”
«My Lola, my adored little sister. I hope you hear me from up there », she said between sobs and with her voice broken by emotion Thibault, one of the older brothers of the murdered girl. “Unfortunately, you have left too soon. I hope I have been present enough for you in your life. We’re going to miss you. I love you, little sister », he added excitedly.
“It is time to say goodbye, but we will see you again,” the bishop of Arras concluded the mass. Those who could not be present in the church during the funeral due to lack of space, followed the religious ceremony through loudspeakers and were able to enter later to see the coffin, lay flowers and say goodbye.
The exit from the church of the coffin was accompanied by the song ‘La Goffa Lolita’ by the group La Petite Culotte. The happy music of this teenage song gave way to a long silence, with which the inhabitants of Lillers said goodbye to little Lola. At the request of her parents, the burial was held in the strictest family privacy in the Lillers cemetery, the same graveyard where the remains of her maternal grandparents rest.
Dahbia B., the main suspect in the crime, is an Algerian immigrant without papers. She had entered France in 2016 legally as a student, but her visa had expired. The alleged murderer, 24, had an order since August to leave French territory for not having the papers in order, but she ignored it.
“Francocide”
This fact outraged the French extreme right, which denounced the “laxity” of the Government in migratory matters and considered that the Executive is partly responsible for this crime. Far-rightist Éric Zemmour described Lola’s murder as “francocide”, implying that Lola was murdered by a foreigner because she was French.
The alleged murderer has been charged with the crimes of “murder of a minor under 15 years of age”, “rape committed with acts of torture and barbarism” and “hiding a corpse”, and is currently incarcerated. She will undergo psychiatric examinations to determine whether or not she can stand trial. If she is finally tried, she could be sentenced to life in prison.
