A year after his assassination, in the Val-d’Oise where he lived, in the Yvelines where he taught, and in Paris where his family will be welcomed at the Elysée, France remembers and pays tribute to the memory of the teacher Samuel Paty, who was murdered and beheaded in front of his school for showing Muhammad caricatures to his students during a course on freedom of expression. At 10.30, a plaque in memory of the teacher will be inaugurated at the entrance to the Ministry of Education.
In the early afternoon, in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines), the teachers of the college of Bois d’Aulne, where Samuel Paty taught, will give a speech in front of students and parents, the former principal of the institute and the minister of National education. Already yesterday, numerous schools throughout France paid tribute to the memory of the history-geography teacher, brutally murdered on October 16 a year ago.
At 3 pm, the town hall of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine will unveil a book-shaped monument in one of the central squares of the city. Samuel Paty’s family will then be received by Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée. Finally, a square located in front of the Sorbonne, rue des Ecoles, will be renamed Plaza Samuel Paty.
