France, Mbappé against Le Pen. “Let’s stop the extremists”
Political chaos in France after the European elections and the new political elections called by Macron in the country (30 June and 7 July). And a couple of stars from the national football team, involved in Euro 2023, take a stand. Primarily Kylian Mbappè, now a former PSG star and from next season galactic champion of Real Madrid. “We are at a crucial moment in the country’s history, and you have to see your priorities. We are citizens first and foremost, we must not be disconnected from the world. We find ourselves in an unprecedented situation. I want to address all French people and in particular young people: let’s see that extremists are at the gates of power. We have the opportunity to change everything, and we must identify with the values of tolerance, respect, diversity. I share the same values as Marcus, I am on his side.” The Marcus to whom Mbappè refers is Thuram, who a few hours earlier had urged people not to vote for Le Pen’s party.
France, Thuram against Le Pen: “We must fight so that the RN does not pass”
The twenty-six-year-old Inter striker, present at a press conference in Paderborn (North Rhine-Westphalia) two days before the match between France and Austria, was clear. “I think the situation is sad, very serious. I found out about it (the RN’s victory in the European elections) after the match against Canada (last Sunday). In the locker room we were all a bit shocked. We have to tell everyone to go to vote and to fight every day to make sure that the RN does not win.” And again: “It’s not enough to say that we need to go and vote, we need to explain how we got here. I won’t name any program in particular, but when I turn on my TV, I tell myself that everything has been done to ensure the rise of the RN”.
France, Deschamps: “They are footballers but first and foremost citizens and they are no strangers to the situation the country is going through”
“Football can unite everyone and I remember that, in any case, the blue of France represents solidarity, union and diversity. I won’t comment on what the players say – added the coach focused only on the debut match against Austria – some want to talk more than others, it’s normal because they are not strangers to the situation that France is going through. They are footballers but first and foremost citizens, and they have the opportunity to say things which, with their sensitivity, will probably fuel the debate”, the words of the French coach Didier Deschamps.
The French Football Federation (FFF) in recent hours had asked to “avoid any form of pressure and political use of the French team” in view of the elections.
Premier Attal, “in France many young people think like Mbappe”
“Young people who speak to young people, obviously, play their role when they invite them to fulfill a civic duty which is to vote. Many young people find themselves behind Kylian Mbappè”, commented the French Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, guest of RTL . The prime minister defined the electoral programs proposed by the French far right and far left as “unworkable”: “They are an economic catastrophe. Retirement at 60 would be impossible to finance. They are the first politicians to betray their voters even before be elected. They want to eliminate everything, it’s unrealistic – he added – Do we want a country that suffers the worst economic crisis of the century? Obviously this would not happen. , he recalled, anticipating that the presidential majority will not have candidates everywhere “because ours are useful candidates to prevent the victory of the extremists. There are three choices: the alliance led by LFI and the one led by RN, which are at the extremes and would be a catastrophe, and there is a third block, the one we lead,” he says.
