2022 Presidential elections France, Macron in the lead: weak challengers and the war in Ukraine among the pro-Emmanuel reasons
Presidential 2022: after the official descent into the field of the current tenant of the Elysée, the former prime ministers, Manuel Valls and Jean-Pierre Raffarin, they announced that they will support re-electionin April, of Emmanuel Macron, 44 years old, from Amiens.
The two former heads of government motivated their decisions in the context of international tensions and the war in Ukraine. On this front, Macron is therethe only European President, which has a direct channel of communication with Putin.
The former prime minister (during Hollande’s presidency and the Islamist massacre at Bataclan), Manuel Vallsa former socialist, called for “unite behind the only possible choice “, voting for Macron in the first round of presidential elections, and added: “Like many Republicans of all beliefs, from April 10, I will vote for Emmanuel Macron.” The eventual ballot will take place after two weeks, on April 24th.
Valls– born in Barcelona, son of a Catalan painter and a Ticino teacher-he motivated his choice also with “political reasons”believing that “this campaign is throwing a bright light on the failures of the two political families (the right and the left), which have long structured democratic life in France”.
Valls’ support was announced soon after that of another right-wing prime minister. Jean-Pierre Raffarin. “This five-year period will undoubtedly remain one of the most difficult in our history: the President lived up to the function, I am delighted with his re-nomination and I will support him ”, explained former premier of the Gaullist government Jacques Chirac, who left Les Républicains several years ago.
