The Palestinian Ministry of Health says that 44 people have been injured in the clashes
At least four Palestinians were killed on Wednesday during a raid by Israeli security forces on a refugee camp in the West Bank city of Jenin. Specifically, in the home of the family of a Palestinian responsible for an attack perpetrated in April against a bar in Tel Aviv, an event that resulted in three fatalities.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health has indicated in a message on its account on the social network Facebook that “the number of martyrs in Jenin has risen to four” and has added that another 44 people have been injured in the framework of the clashes. Among the fatalities is Abdulfazi Hazem, brother of Raad Hazem, responsible for an attack on April 7 in Tel Aviv and who died hours later in a shootout with security forces. The other three deceased are Mohamed Alauné, Ahmed Alauné and Mohamad abu Naasé.
Israeli security forces had already demolished Raad Hazem’s home in the refugee camp, although the Israeli authorities have indicated that they want both his father, who publicly applauded his son’s actions, and two of his brothers to come to declare, as reported by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.
Suspected of armed attacks
In this sense, the Israeli Army has indicated on Twitter that the objective of the raid in Jenin was “to arrest two suspects involved in several recent armed attacks” and added that “after surrounding the residence in which they were, an artifact was activated explosive and the suspects opened fire on the security forces.
“The security forces responded by opening fire, in line with procedures, and the two suspects died,” he said, before confirming that one of them “was the brother of the terrorist who killed three Israeli civilians” in the Tel Aviv attack. . “We will continue to act in the fight against terrorism,” he settled.
A spokesman for the Israeli Border Police quoted by ‘The Times of Israel’ has stressed that the objective was to arrest Hazem and Mohamed Alauné and has detailed that both were behind several shootings in recent months, including one against a vehicle of the Ministry of Defending. Thus, he has stressed that both were planning “significant attacks in the near future.”
“Total disregard for life”
For his part, the spokesman for the Presidency of the Palestinian Authority, Nabul abu Rudeina, has accused Israel of “showing total disregard for the lives of Palestinians” and of “undermining regional security and stability.” Thus, he has pointed out that these events “will not guarantee Israel legitimacy or security”, as reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
Abu Rudeina has stated that Israel “violates international laws and norms” and has emphasized that the Israeli and US authorities “have lost their credibility because their actions on the ground clash with their calls for calm and stability”, while which has stressed that “condemnation statements are not enough” and that “they must be followed by practical actions”.
The Palestinian Prime Minister, Mohamad Shtayé, has expressed himself along these lines, lamenting that “the blood of the Palestinians is being used to prepare the electoral campaign in Israel, at a time when the world is concerned with other international crises” . For this reason, he has called for “the end of the occupation” and the creation of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Israeli authorities put the security forces on high alert last week in view of the celebration of the next Jewish holidays –Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot–, while the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas ) warned about the “repercussions” that visits by Jewish faithful to the Esplanade of the Mosques would have during these holidays.
