The event occurred when operators were drilling in the vicinity of the Donnersbergerbruecke train station, in the center of the German capital
Four people were injured on Wednesday by the explosion of a World War II bomb near the Donnersberger Bridge in Munich. The howitzer was buried in a construction site and could be detonated by a drilling rig working at the site.
Of the injured, at least one has been evacuated to hospital in serious condition. Dozens of vehicles have traveled to the area and the railway operator has reported on its Twitter account the suspension of traffic at the station until further notice.
The Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann, has explained from the scene of the event that it is a device launched by the allied forces of about 250 kilos, reports the DPA news agency. Among the questions that remain to be clarified is the reason why the bomb was not discovered, since for this type of work, checks are frequently carried out in search of possible unexploded howitzers, whose findings are still frequent in certain areas of Germany.
The Donnersbergerbrücke in central Munich is on the main S-Bahn metro route in the Bavarian capital. Numerous fire trucks and around 50 emergency services remain at the scene, while a federal police helicopter flew over the area.
