The new Foton Tunland G7 is preparing to land in Italy. It's about the first pickup of the Chinese brand to be imported onto the Italian market, at the hands of EMC, more commonly known as Eurasia Motor Company. A very particular model for the segment that it confesses it wants to address: EMC's strategy has been to go against the currentas admitted by president Federico Daffi, given that “Many manufacturers are abandoning the pick-up segment.”
Engine and mechanics
“It is a pick-up that has great strengths when it comes to mechanics,” Luca Verri, Dealer Manager at Eurasia Motor Company, declared at the press conference. One of these is certainly the beating heart of him, a 4F20 diesel engine high performance model created in collaboration with the British Ricardo: the overall power is equal to 162 HP, while the maximum torque reaches 388 Nm. Fundamental in this case was another high-ranking collaboration, the one with Bosch, which put its injection system is available which ensures emissions compliant with Euro 6E regulations. In combination, Foton offers a 6-speed manual gearbox or alternatively an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.
Size and traction
A look at the dimensions of this pickup: we're talking about a vehicle mighty, which boasts a length of 5,340 metres, a width of 1,940 meters and a height of between 1,870 and 1,905 metres. The new Tunland G7 is also available with the intelligent 4×4 traction system, which works through an internally positioned selector with which the driver can choose between four driving modes such as 2H, AUTO, 4H and 4L: among these, the AUTO is the one that can achieve automatic switching between four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive and automatic distribution of torque between the front and rear axles.
Interiors and technology
We have mentioned components inside the passenger compartment, so let's complete the picture. Considering that the new Tunland G7 is available in a single version that includes everything as standard, the leather interior with honeycomb finish, the electrically adjustable seats, the steering wheel which is also equipped with gear shift paddles in the case of the model with automatic transmission, the multimedia system with 10.25″ touch screen display, a second 7″ color multifunction screen integrated in the instrument panel and ambient lighting via LED with the possibility of choosing up to 7 colours. Final mention to safetyenhanced to maximum power thanks to the standard equipment of 6 airbags, a braking system with 4 disc brakes combined with the BOSCH ESP device which includes ABS, EBD and TCS, and a long list of ADAS driving assistance systems.
Electric future
“Another thing that characterizes this vehicle is the entry price, really competitive and 25-30% lower than that of our main competitors at the same level of equipment”, added Verri. The price list speaks of 25,400 euros excluding VAT in the case of the version with manual transmission and 27,050 euros if you choose the model with automatic transmission. In the future we can also expect one full electric version of this pickup? Daffi himself responds in this regard: “Yes, it already exists in China, and now we are waiting for the first prototypes, it will have significant prices. We aim to carve out a space for ourselves in this segment too.”
