“SportAbility” is the project launched with the support of the Liguria Region, the collaboration of the Regional Council for the handicap, the patronage of the Italian Paralympic Committee and Special Olympics in Liguria. In the run-up to the International Day for People with Disabilities, this event will celebrate the fundamental power of sport, that is, teaching to face all kinds of difficulties, developing resilience skills, and providing the tools to solve them thus going beyond any obstacle, impediment or barrier. .
In the prestigious setting of the Salone del Maggior Consiglio in Palazzo Ducale, from 9:30 to 12:30, the Forum will host the highest institutional and sports authorities, sports champions, journalists, students for an “exchange” of experiences that will enhance the value of sport as a tool for integration and inclusion.
Among the guests of honor Oney Tapia (twice bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games), Francesco Bocciardo (double Paralympic gold medal in Tokyo 2020 in swimming) and Amanda Embriaco (finalist at the 2021 Paralympic Canoe World Championships). Three great champions who will be joined by Claudio Arrigoni, Paralympic sport expert and prestigious signature of Corriere della Sera and Gazzetta dello Sport.
The regional councilors Ilaria Cavo (social policies) and Simona Ferro (sport) will intervene on the binomial “sport and disability”, flanked by Claudio Puppo (coordinator of the regional consultation for the handicap) and with video interventions by Luca Pancalli (president of the Italian Committee Paralympic) and Alessandra Palazzotti (director of Special Olympics Italy). Also present were Gaetano Cuozzo (president of Cip Liguria) and Alessandro Clavarino (coordinator of Special Olympics Genoa).
At the center of the forum some good practices of inclusive sport in Liguria. Giulio Attardi and Christian Puggioni will illustrate the “inclusive Camp” promoted by Bic Genova. Simone Spinelli and Carla Botta will talk about the “We Play Football” project dedicated to integrated football between autistic and able-bodied children. And then there will be Fabio Incorvaia, seven times world champion in jet skis, with his “Jet Ski Therapy”.
“The Sportability project, which as a Region we have supported from the beginning, because it is in perfect harmony with some of our missions and that is to promote sociality, inclusion and integration also through sport – underlines Ilaria Cavo, councilor for social policies of Liguria Region – comes to another moment of sharing, the Forum, or a moment in which to share the path made together and to relaunch once again the themes of inclusion. As councilorship we strongly believe in these values, so much so that in October the council launched a procedure for the implementation of a Subsidiary Pact with the Third Sector linked to projects in the sphere of inclusive social sport. Sportability fully represents this address and does not stop. It will continue in schools, with updates on the specially created website and other initiatives. The goal is always to convince those who do not yet practice sports to do it, to discover their skills and develop them “.
“Maybe Tokyo has changed things, we have seen Italian athletes 69 times get on the Olympic podium, packing the best result ever, bringing our Paralympic athletes and their deeds to the hearts of the Italians”, comments the regional councilor for sport Simona Iron. “As the Liguria Region we want to devote particular attention to Paralympic sport and to human rather than athletic stories of those who manage to overcome their limits with commitment, self-denial and constancy like any sportsman does. From them we can learn a lot and first of all that there is no limit that can stop a person’s will ”.
The forum will allow to “highlight” the primary function of sport as an opportunity for rebirth and personal growth with physical, psychological and social benefits. Courage, determination, inspiration will be the basis of every testimony. Participants will also be able to visit the exciting “SportAbility” photographic exhibition curated by Cristina Corti who since 2019 has started a precious journey among the Ligurian associations that promote the “sport of all abilities”. An exciting photographic story full of values.
The event will be broadcast in live streaming on the website www.sportabilityliguria.it. In the Salone del Maggior Consiglio there will be 300 high school students and numerous journalists (the event is accredited for training by the Order of Journalists). A training opportunity also for 200 university students of Motor Sciences who will follow the work live on the teams platform activated for the special “Ade”.
And numerous Ligurian schools that have enthusiastically joined the project will follow the SportAbility Forum in the classroom.
