The 17th edition of Formula SAE Italy, an international technical-sporting competition open to the participation of engineering students, officially opened yesterday with the inaugural ceremony at 9.00 pm on the track of the “Riccardo Paletti” circuit in Varano de ‘Melegari (Parma). from universities around the world, organized by ANFIA.
To welcome about 1,700 students from 18 countries representing 64 university teams – of which 54 European (20 Italians, from 15 different universities) and 10 non-Europeans – Raffaele Fregonese, Director of Formula SAE Italy, who opened the works also recalling the recent death of Ruben Wainberg – esteemed car designer, judge of the Design Event of Formula SAE Italy and creator of the previous logo of the event, recently renewed – and then pass the word to Massimiliano Marsiaj, Coordinator of the Motorsport Section of ANFIA .
“I would like to thank all the sponsors and partners, the staff of the racetrack and the Municipality of Varano for having made possible, with their support, this 17th edition of the event despite the complicated moment we are experiencing at the level of international equilibrium, which impacts on the business of our sector and various other industrial sectors “, Marsiaj began.

Following, Federico Criscuoli, ALTEN’s Coach Business Manager, main sponsor of the event, declared: “Today, driving innovation is not easy, great dynamism and solid skills are needed to face daily challenges that put us to the test under every aspect, at a technical level and at the level of interpersonal and communication skills “.

Finally, Giuseppe Restiani, mayor of Varano de ‘Melegari, a municipality that, as always, sponsored the event together with the Province of Parma and the Emilia Romagna Region, wished to welcome the children with a warm greeting.
Between yesterday and today, the technical checks of the cars in the race for the 1C (combustion), 1E (electric) and 1D (driverless) classes began in the paddock, which will continue tomorrow.
Today at 10.00 the sessions of the Business presentation event opened, which will end on the same day for Class 1 D, while tomorrow the sessions for classes 1C and 1E will take place, with the finals in the late afternoon in the meeting tent of the event.
Also today, the work of the Cost event is scheduled to start at 2.30 pm, which will continue tomorrow, while the Design event will take place entirely tomorrow. For both tests, the juries will confront each other directly with the teams in their respective pits on the projects and cars presented.
The event is open to the public of visitors on all five days. Paddock access tickets can be purchased at the Formula SAE Italy Registration Area in the circuit. From this year it will also be possible to take a guided tour with a guide in Italian or English.
