The NIO 333 team unveiled the new livery describing it as an “evolution” of last season’s design that featured a dark blue and black carbon fiber color scheme.
The biggest change is the addition of red accents on various parts of the car including the front wheel arches and rear wing. The shade of red used is the same as that found in the Chinese national flag.
Team NIO 333 pointed out how the revised color scheme will help differentiate its cars from those of other teams, a likely reference to Jaguar’s similar livery with its I-Type 5.
“Since the end of last season, I’ve been thinking about our team’s look for season 8,” said CEO Vincent Wang. “The livery of last season’s car was very well received, which is certainly a positive thing, but it also represented a challenge for us to come up with an even better design for 2022!”

“We tried a lot of different variations and in the end we wanted something familiar for the fans, but different. After various concepts we decided on a model developed from the base of last year’s version.”
“While the base colors NIO blue and 333 Racing blue have not been drastically changed, we have updated the lines on the side of the car to make them more ‘electric’.
“At first glance these new elements seem a bit cyberpunk and edgy, while representing an evolution of what we saw on last season’s car. In the new color scheme we have also added the Chinese” red “which stands out but is not intrusive and it will also serve to differentiate our cars from the others “.
The two NIO 333 001s will carry # 3 and # 33 into 2022, returning to the team’s favorite numbers after running # 8 and # 88 last season.
Oliver Turvey will remain with NIO 333 for the final season of the Gen2 era of Formula E, while the announcement regarding his teammate is expected to come ahead of the Valencia test starting on 29 November.
The Chinese team is hoping to return to competition this season after taking a major step forward in 2019/20 by scoring points in six of 15 races and surpassing the point total from their previous two seasons.
The team recently moved to their new headquarters in Silverstone, having previously divided their workforce between a workshop in Donington Park and an innovation center in Oxford. However, the NEO 333 team continues to maintain a physical base in China that hosts members of sales and marketing.
