The second practice of the Austrian F1 race was dominated by Mercedes.
Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas occupied the first two places on the results list in the number one Austrian Formula One Austrian practice in Friday’s practice.
Hamilton, who shook the top time on 1.04,523, left Bottas at 0.189 seconds and number one in the morning practice. Max Verstappen 0.217 seconds away.
The race will be run on the same track as last weekend. Red Bull’s Verstappen was the fastest last week in all training, time trials and racing.
However, Bottas believes that Mercedes has gotten closer to Red Bull in less than a week on the home track of the energy drink stable.
“It’s just training, and we can’t know what training programs others are running. It feels better now than last weekend, but there’s no doubt that Red Bull is still strong,” Bottas thought.
Red The very flexible rear wing, which helps Bull’s car straight, got a lot of attention last weekend. The Spielberg track has the least number of bends of the season, so direct speed is essential.
“I think they still have more direct speed, which is our weakness. But in time, we see real differences when the engines are fully twisted,” Bottas said.
In the morning Alfa Romeo, who also raced sixth in Hamilton’s practice Kimi Raikkonen was 14th in the second training session. Räikkönen was just over a second from Hamilton’s bottom time.
The third practice and time trials of the Austrian GP will be run on Saturday. The ninth race of the season is scheduled for Sunday.
