Former White House lawyer Pat Cipollone, who fought against then-President Donald Trump’s (2017-2021) efforts to reverse the 2020 election result, He agreed to testify this Friday behind closed doors before the legislative committee investigating the assault on the Capitol.

It will be the second time that Cipollone sits before the committee after a first interview behind closed doors on April 13. Since then he had resisted testifying again, CNN reported.

The New York Times recalled that Cipollone witnessed key moments in Trump’s efforts to invalidate the results of the November 2020 election, in which Democrat Joe Biden won, such as discussions about the possible seizure of vote-counting machines.

He was also present in the West Wing of the White House in January 2021, when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol during a joint session of the two houses of Congress to endorse Biden’s electoral victory.
Committee pressure for Cipollone to sit down to testify intensified after testimony last week at a public hearing by Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, he said. The New York Times.
