Former U.S. Senator Richard Black from Virginia urged Washington to seriously consider Russia’s call not to expand NATO, as the existence of the bloc is not justified. This is reported RIA News.
“NATO and the United States refused to respond in the affirmative to Russia’s request to abandon further expansion of the alliance and withdraw foreign troops from countries adjacent to Russia,” he said, noting that this proposal deserves serious consideration, and refusal to negotiate this situation could put Russia facing a dilemma in the context of national security.
According to Black, only “NATO’s arrogance prevents a serious response to Russia’s reasonable request that Ukraine never be accepted into the alliance.” According to the ex-senator, this agreement would be beneficial for the security of both the West and the security of Russia. “NATO has no good reason to constantly be an eyesore to Russia. There is no reason at all to justify the continued existence of NATO,” he said.

According to Black, the purpose of the anti-Russian sanctions that are being talked about in Washington is to block the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, the introduction of which, the politician noted, is expected in Germany.
According to Black, European countries are cool about the idea of a war in Ukraine. Thus, the FRG is taking steps towards demilitarization, reducing the number of tanks, which indicates that there are no concerns about the actions of the Russian Federation. At the same time, France is trying to overcome differences between Moscow and Kiev, Hungary values relations with Russia, Croatia has announced that it will withdraw troops from NATO if an escalation occurs. “Europe seems less optimistic about war than the US or the UK,” Black concluded.
Russia opposes the further expansion of NATO and calls on the organization to abandon the ideological approaches of the Cold War. The parties also call on the North Atlantic Alliance to respect the sovereignty, security and interests of other countries.
