Four months later, the former Lazio midfielder has decided to convene a press conference together with the president of Gremio (his new and last team) Alberto Guerra to officially announce his retirement from football.

“Today I announce my retirement. I’m ending my career, at the club I wanted, but not the way I wanted. My health comes first.” So Lucas Leiva, before abandoning himself to pain and tears in what was a heartbreaking conference. At his side were also the vice president of the Gremio Paulo Caleffi, the doctors Márcio Dornelles and Paulo Rabaldo. Coach Renato Portaluppi and defender Pedro Geromel, meanwhile, represented the team. Excited, Lucas thanked everyone for the moments in his career and said that now a new phase will begin for him.
Lucas Leiva retires from playing football at the age of 36. Teammates and coaching staff members embraced him after the announcement.
