Former US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has passed away at the age of 88. On Wednesday, June 30, reports CNBC citing a statement from his family.
It is noted that the ex-head of the Pentagon died at his home in Taos, New Mexico.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Donald Rumsfeld, an American statesman and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather,” the family said.
Rumsfeld served twice as Secretary of Defense: in the administration of Presidents Gerald Ford in 1975-1977 and George W. Bush in 2001-2006.
Rumsfeld, among other things, oversaw the Pentagon’s response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in New York.
