Residents and authorities in the highlands of Chihuahua raised alarm bells due to the presence of a dangerous forest fire in the Sierra Tarahumara that continues to expand towards the communities belonging to the municipality of Bocoyna.
According to official information, elements of the State Civil Protection Coordination of the state (CEPC) implemented preventive actions in collaboration with municipal authorities to safeguard the integrity of the population and control the fire. In this sense, they carried out inspection tours in the towns of El Llano and Sojahuachi during the course of Wednesday.
In the case of the community of Elías, the winds aggravated the situation and rescuers were forced to execute an immediate evacuation plan for those affected. As a result, three homes were evacuated and moved to the community’s Ejidal hall.
Given this difficult situation caused by the forest fire in the mountain area of ChihuahuaCEPC asked the population to remain calm, pay attention to the instructions of local authorities and collaborate with them to facilitate both rescue efforts and fire mitigation.
It is worth mentioning that the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) reported that there are currently 149 active forest fires in 25 states of Mexico, of which 30 are in protected natural areas. So far they estimate that approximately 3,594 were affected, while 5,606 people are still working to put out the flames.
