In Moscow on Sunday, January 24, the air temperature rose to plus 2.2 degrees. The corresponding indicators were recorded at 20:00 at the main metropolitan meteorological station at VDNKh.
“Today is the warmest day since the beginning of this winter in Moscow,” said Interfax representative of the metropolitan meteorological office.
According to him, such an abnormal temperature exceeds the average daily climatic norm for the end of January by more than 10 degrees.
As specified in the meteorological office, the previous time the temperature maximum of this winter was noted on December 17, 2020.
Earlier that day, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, warned Muscovites about the preservation of warm, but gloomy weather in the city until the middle of next week. These days there will be low clouds, nebula, slush and no sun, he said.
On January 17, the leading employee of the Phobos weather center, Yevgeny Tishkovets, said that January 18 in Moscow will be the coldest day in the last four years. The metropolitan weather bureau called the night of January 17 the coldest since the beginning of winter.
