The slow return to work at the Ford factory in Almussafes has been cut short again by weather alerts. The Valencia’s largest factory will not work this Thursday due to the new DANA that runs through Spain and has led to restrictions on vehicle travel in the most affected municipalities.
Ford has suspended production planned for this Wednesday night and for this Thursday throughout the Almussafes factory (Valencia) due to the weather alerts in force in the province, as reported by UGT in a statement, in which it explains that on Friday the activity will resume again in the morning shift.
The Valencian plant had resumed production last Monday at its engine plant and this Wednesday at the vehicle assembly plantalthough with a level of activity much lower than usual, since only the morning shift works. Although there is only production in the mornings, maintenance services and other tasks are carried out in other shifts such as the night shift, which has been suspended this Wednesday.
After this new stoppage, during the next week the production of vehicles and engines will continue in a single morning shift, due to “the difficulty in recovering 100% supply of parts in the supply chain.” Several of its suppliers are located in the municipalities considered ground zero and in addition to the losses of equipment and product they still have difficulties returning to activity.
In Erte of force majeure
The Ford factory will continue to use ERTE of force majeure that the company has requested and has been approved by the General Directorate of Labor as long as this situation continues, which “makes it impossible to return to two-shift manufacturing in vehicle plants,” according to UGT.
The management of Ford and UGT agreed last Wednesday to apply an ERTE for the Almussafes factory (Valencia) with retroactive effects from last October 29 and which will last until November 30 at most.
