In 2024 Ford will be able to show off versions GT3 and GT4 from the Mustang, with the intention of winning endurance races in the United States and internationally. He announced it Ford Performance with a release that specifically speaks of an official Ford commitment starting with 24 Hours of Daytona 2024.
The car, developed together with Multimatic, will obviously not be based on the Mach-E electric but on the combustion version, and it will be equipped with a 5-liter Coyote V8 engine. It will be tested by Joey Hand, who is already involved in the development program for the winning Ford GT at Le Mans in 2016. The Mustang will be built with key input from M-Sport in the UK.
Ford Mustang GT3 will be equipped with revamped front and rear suspension, rear-mounted transaxle gearbox, carbon fiber body panels and a specific aerodynamic package; from the silhouette shown by Ford (cover image) you can see a very generously sized rear wing.
Ford and Multimatic will also prepare one Mustang GT4 that it should instead debut in 2023, therefore a year in advance on the more performing ‘sister’. In this case, Ford’s interest will have even more European implications, given the interest of the Old Continent teams in the project. It is unclear whether this large-scale sporting project will lead to the development of new road versions of the Ford Mustang, focusing even more on handling and obviously power. In the meantime, however, the number of cars capable of developing GT3 cars to match the situation will expand even further, and Ford is following the announcement of Toyota in time; the Japanese showed their project at the recent Tokyo Motor Show.
“The Mustang was born to race since its first release, and we are thrilled to present the GT3 project, which will lead the model to compete head-to-head against some of the world’s largest manufacturers.“Said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports.
