The European Ford Mustang range expands with the introduction of a new special series. Let’s talk about the California Edition, which compared to the standard version of the US sports car brings a series of changes from an aesthetic and equipment point of view. Available only in the convertible variant of the Mustang, the new California Edition takes inspiration from a notchback coupe prototype Shelby GT from 1967, called the California Special, which in its original version boasted a grille, fog lights and racing side stripes all finished in black.
The new Mustang California Edition confirms some of these elements: the design it is embellished by the presence of an ebony black honeycomb front grille, lower side stripes finished in black, red and gray, exclusive badges, 19 ″ wheels and California Special decals. Not only that: each example of this limited edition of the blue Oval sports car also features a “California Special” logo which is however only visible in strong sunlight. There are nine colors available for the livery of this special series, including Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange, which contrast with the black hood. Ford also worked intensively on the side aerodynamics, a significantly improved appearance thanks to the installation of a larger front splitter and optional rear side air intakes. Inside the cockpit, the heated seats finished in gray imitation suede, a 12 ″ driver display and a digital instrument panel finished in aluminum deserve a mention.
As for the engine offering, the new Mustang California Edition is only available with a 5.0 liter V8 engine, capable of unleashing a total power of 443 hp and delivering a maximum torque of 528 Nm. Specifications that, on the road, translate into a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h consumable in 4.5 seconds. In conjunction, an automatic 10-speed gearbox is offered. At the moment Ford did not disclose prices for Europe of this special edition of the Mustang, but it is to be expected that it will be more expensive than the Mustang GT.
